Ways patient may find if his vasectomy failed

A vasectomy is a quite simple surgical procedure performed by a urologist. The purpose of this procedure is male sterilization. When it is performed by a trained specialist, vasectomy is considered to be the most effective and safe contraceptive method.

But, like any other surgical procedure, it is possible for a vasectomy to fail. By failure of vasectomy surgery we should understand that the operation does not achieve its purpose, that means the men remains fertile or becomes fertile after a period of time. The main factor that causes the failure of vasectomy is the surgeon experience. There are also certain surgical techniques that have been proven to minimize the risk of recanalization of the vas deferes.

The reason urologists want patient to go back for semen analysis after vasectomy is to make sure that a technical failure hasn't happened. Bottom line is that patient aren't clear until it has been proven by semen analysis, and it's the patients responsibility to supply samples as indicated by the doctor. It is also the patient responsibility to follow certain precautions after vasectomy operation.

  • First of all, patient must maintain scheduled follow-up visits to his urologist for regular sperm counts. After vasectomy, every man is still considered fertile, unless a screen report indicates no viable semen. Until this report is received, additional birth control methods should be used to prevent pregnancy.

  • Patient must consult with your urologist if the tube that allows the sperm to travel from the testicles to mix with the semen is completely blocked. A completely obstruction of this way result in the fact volume or motility of sperm in patient's ejaculate fails to diminish.

  • Once the patient's infertility is certified by the urologist a sperm analysis should performed from time to time. In very rare cases, less than one-half of 1 percent, the vas deferens may spontaneously reconnect, permitting at least a partial flow of sperm into the semen that may result into an unexpected pregnancy after vasectomy.

A big help should be if the patient could see a video of vasectomy surgery.
